Holy-Cross-in-Plain is a common French, located close to Colmar in the department of the Haut-Rhin and the area Alsace

Geography

History

The city is resulting from a Abbaye women, founded towards 1045 by the count Hugo d' Eguisheim in the south of its stronghold, Woffenheim. In 1049, his/her son, Bruno, become the pope Leon IX, devotes to it the first abbess and fact gift in particular of pieces of the Holy-Cross (from where its name).

Personalities related to the commune

  • Georges Stoffel, born in 1817 with Holy-Cross-in-Plain. Initially employed with the prefecture of perceiving Colmar then in 1845 in Dürlingsdorf and 1856 in Habsheim. It made research on the history of Alsace.

  • Luc Hueber (1888-1974), painter born with Holy-Cross-in-Plain.
