Holy-Clotilde-of-Horton

Holy-Clotilde-with-Horton is a municipality of the regional Municipalité of county of Arthabaska, in the administrative area of the Center-of-Quebec to the Quebec (Canada).

Geography

Holy-Clotilde, located at the south of the the St. Lawrence, is to about thirty kilometers in the south-west of Victoriaville, in the tourist area of the Wood-Francs. She is crossed by the Rivière Nicolet in south-west. The presence of the Nicolet river ensures the grounds a good fertility and supports the practice of agriculture.

History

The name of Sainte Clotilde comes from the queen of the Francs, girl of Chilpéric, king of the Burgondes which married Clovis. Horton which was reproduced already on a chart of 1795 points out a town of England.

The transfer of part of the territories of Saint-Valère-to-Bulstrode, of Warwick, Grantham and of Wendover-and-Simpson could form the old municipality of the parish of Holy Clotilde-of-Horton. It is officially set up in 1864, whereas the parish of the same name is the subject of a canonical erection in 1870.

The territory of the municipality of Saint-Jacques-of-Horton is detached from the municipality of Holy Clotilde-of-Horton in 1948.

March 26th, 1997, the new municipality of Holy-Clotilde-of-Horton was set up by the regrouping of the municipality of Holy-Clotilde-to-Horton and of the municipality of Saint-Jacques-of-Horton.

Orthography

There is a certain undulation in the orthography of the name of the municipality between “ Holy-Clot' h' ilde-of-Horton ” (with a “ h ” in “ Clothilde ”) and “ Holy-Clotilde-of-Horton ”. It is this last orthography which it would be necessary to privilege.
