Holy-Catherine Abbey of Laval

The Holy-Catherine abbey of Laval was located at Laval in Mayenne. This establishment did not last.

History

Thanks to the influence of François Lesné, this last found average to make set up in abbey the priory of Holy-Catherine of Laval, simple dependence of the Abbaye of Réal in Poitou, and to make him annex the priories of the Port-Ringeard and Olivet. This establishment admittedly did not last.

François Lesné admittedly obtained in 1493, of the pope Alexandre VI, a bubble setting up in abbey its priory of Holy-Catherine of Laval, by the annexation of the priories of Olivet and the Port-Ringeard; but, in spite of the visa given to the bubble by the cardinal Philippe of Luxembourg, each house kept its independence.

The abbot of Réal, which had approved it initially, retracted; but finally, during his life, François Lesné enjoys his title.
