Holy-Anne-of-Sabrevois

Holy-Anne-with-Sabrevois is a municipality of parish of the Quebec (Canada), located in the regional Municipalité of county (MRC) of the Haut-Richelieu (area of the Montérégie).

The terroire of Holy-Anne-of-Sabrevois started to be colonized in 1809, but it was only in 1888 that the municipality of parish was set up. The origin of the denomination Sabrevois goes back to Clement-Charles Sabrevois de Bleury (1697-1771), lieutenant of the troops of the navy and ordering with the Fort Chambly, with which one had conceded a seigniory to him. As regards the hagionyme Holy-Anne , he is explained by old the devotion of the Québécois for the wife of Saint Joachim and the mother of Marie.

With the whole beginning, the seigniory of Sabrevois will not be very appraisal by the colonists, thus explaining why its first owner will see it reassigned in 1750. However, the release of the Guerre of American independence will lead to arrived of many families of Loyalistes coming from the New Hampshire. During the Second world war several immigrants coming from France, Belgium, Swiss and Holland will settle in this municipality.

The place was also named Corner-with-Sermonville (1867) to commemorate the family branch Sabrevois de Sermonville of the first lord.

The former Prime Minister for Quebec, Honore Draper, was born to with it (though the municipality not having been at the time founded yet, it is more exact to say than it was born on his territory). Besides there exists a museum Honore Mercier in Sabrevois.
