Hollywood Boulevard

Hollywood Boulevard is the most famous avenue of Hollywood, in California and one of the high places of tourism with Los Angeles.

Presentation

Hollywood Boulevard extends from Is in West of Vermont Avenue until Sunset Boulevard. It concentrates at the same time the Walk off Famed, with famous stars of the high-speed motorboats, the Grauman' S Chinese Theater, the El Capitan Theater and the Kodak Theater, where are given each year the Oscars of the cinema. In front of Grauman' S Chinese Theater, many stars immortalisé their passage by leaving a print of the feet and hands in fresh cement.

History

In the beginning, of 1887 with 1910, celebrates it artery names Prospect Which occurred. It holds this name of Harvey Wilcox, the owner of a field of 0,6 km in the north of Los Angeles which he names “Hollywood” on an idea of his wife. It is him which creates the first chart of the city, that it supplements with the authorities of the county. With his wife like adviser, it traces Prospect Which occurred like main street.

It is thus into 1910 that Hollywood is annexed to the town of Los Angeles. The extension of the subway of the Metro Red Line to Hollywood goes back to June 1999. It connects Downtown Los Angeles to the Vallée of San Fernando, by making three stops on Hollywood Boulevard, on the level of the crossroads with Western Avenue, Vine Street and Highland Avenue.

Efforts are made these last years to dam up the degradation of Hollywood Boulevard. They appear in particular by construction in 2001 of the shopping mall Hollywood and Highland, being next to Kodak Theater, accompanied by a programme of rehabilitation of residences. In same time, nightclubs open, attracting starlets and celebrities like Paris Hilton, Lindsay Lohan, and Jamie Foxx.

There exist two different “Hollywood Boulevard”, one with Hollywood, in Florida and the other with Las Vegas.
