Holland-Southerner

The Holland-Southerner , or Holland-of-South , ( Zuid-Holland in Dutch) is a province of the Netherlands, located in the west of the country, in edge of the the North Sea and with $the Hague for capital.

Geography

Among the principal cities, one counts $the Hague (seat of the Dutch government and the the International Court of Justice) and Rotterdam (one of the largest ports of the world). Leyde, Delft and Gouda has very a rich person historical heritage dating from the XVIIe century.

The province is crossed by several rivers such as the Nouvelle Meuse, the Nieuwe Waterweg, the Vieille Meuse, the Haringvliet and the Hollands Diep.

The south-west of the province is historically made of a Archipel which belongs to the Delta of the Rhine - Meuse - the Scheldt, the islands of the Holland-Southerner.

The name of this province was taken again with the the United States to baptize a city of the Illinois (see South Holland, Illinois) and with the the United Kingdom to name a district of the Lincolnshire (see South Holland, England).

on January 1st 2004, the old communes of Maasland and Schipluiden were amalgamated in a new commune Midden-Delfland
on January 1st 2004, the old communes of To bind, 's-Gravenzande, Monster, Naaldwijk and Wateringen was amalgamated in a new commune, Westland.
on January 1st 2006, the old communes of Sassenheim, Voorhout and Warmond were amalgamated in a new commune Teylingen
