Holland-Septentrional

The Holland-Septentrional , or Holland-of-North , ( Noord-Holland in Dutch, Noôrd-Holland in Western Clippings ) is a province Netherlands, located at the North-West of the country, with Haarlem for capital. The province counts other important cities such as Amsterdam, the capital of the country, or Hilversum, Alkmaar, Zaandam and Hoorn.

Geography

TheSeptentrional one is a peninsula advancing in the the North Sea. More half of the territory of the province was conquered on water by the means of the polders and is below the sea level. The island of Texel also forms part of theSeptentrional one.

Recent modifications

  • on January 1st, 2005, the commune of Venhuizen was attached to the commune of Drechterland
  • on January 1st, 2007, the communes of Obdam and of Wester-Koggenland amalgamate. The new commune thus created bears the name of Koggenland
  • on January 1st, 2007, the communes of Noorder-Koggenland and Wognum is attached to the commune of Medemblik
