Foley (or Holey ), the traditional religion Songhaï.

The traditional religion refers to a the Pantheon of Esprit S which forms a true spiritual company with the image of the Pantheon of the God X Greek. These " esprits" , Foley, are the wire of Sidi Koy (that which is invisible). They belong to three big families: the family of Hara Koy , Spirit of the waters, the family of Bucket Koy , Genius of the sky and the family of Marou , the spirit of the ground. With the image of the human families each spirit is her own, its know-how which depend partly on her line. One calls upon Hara Koy for the rain, with Béné Koy to avoid the natural disasters and with Marou for agriculture or hunting. However, the role of the ones and others are superimposed in a complexity which is decipherable only by the only initiates. Foley use the body of the initiates to speak with the group during the dances about possession. The musicians play the music of " the esprit" , and sing its history. They call in turn all the members of its family to encourage it to come. In same time, the initiates dance the steps symbolizing each family member of the spirit.

The worship of the foley

Ceremonies of dances of possession The worship of the foley has its Prêtre, the zima. Who organizes the ceremonies of Possession by fright. Any ceremony is done with the presence of an orchestra. The principal instrument is the gogué , the violin, from where the name of may gogué , i.e. the violonist. It is the genealogist of the foley. The musicians play the music of the spirit which they want to make come and point out his capacities in the same way that the griots sing the kings in the human society. The initiates specialized in the therapies by the dance of possession are named " zima". Zima comes from Zi my ka which means “that which is able to cross water without the assistance of average materials”. One cannot be zima without being already also an initiate. When the spirit speaks through its horse, a language of initiates replaces the language dendi then. The zima, master of ceremony or one of his/her collaborators translate it for the public. The zima is then in position of interpreter between the patient and the spirit, in the same manner that the psychoanalyst is an interpreter between the patient and his unconscious. It is thus understood easily that in this form of therapy, the unconscious collective replaces unconscious individual Western therapies, and that it can thus be done only in group.
