Hoffmann it Roche ( F. Hoffmann it Rock SA ) () is a pharmaceutical group Suisse, and one of the first world groups of the sector.
The company is present, under the mark “Rock”, in all the segments related to the health products: Drug S, other health products (Vitamin S, minerals, produced Cosmetic S for the Skin and the Hair X), tests and diagnoses.
The company is present commercially in 150 countries. Its seat is located at Basle (Swiss). Its turnover rose in 2003 to 31,2 billion Swiss francs for a clear benefit of 3 billion. The manpower approximately counts 65.000 paid.
In 2001, the company was recognized guilty by the European commission to have created a trust of pharmaceutical companies in the field of the vitamins and was condemned has a fine of 462 million Euro S.
History
The company was founded on October 1st 1896 by Fritz Hoffmann it Roche. Very quickly, it opened subsidiary companies in Germany (1898), in Italy (1898), in France (1903), in the United States (1905), in Great Britain (1908) and Russia (1910).Fritz Hoffmann it Roche dies the April 18th 1920 leaving a very dynamic company.
In 1933, Roche launches the synthesis of the Vitamine C thanks to work of Tadeusz Reichstein (Nobel Prize in 1950).
1958: acquisition of the laboratory To jump of Geneva.
1963: production of Valium, one tranquillizing.
1976: The accident of Seveso affects a factory of the Givaudan subsidiary company.
1989: reorganization of the group and foundation of Rock Holding AG.
1989: inauguration with Strasbourg of the International Roche Clinical Research Centers .
1994: acquisition of the pharmaceutical group American Syntex Corporation, of Palo Alto (California) which will become Roche Bioscience.
1999: Authorization by the Food and Drug Administration of the effective Tamiflu against the Avian flu of the type H5N1 2000: Givaudan is put out of purse and separates from the Roche group.
