Hodjatoleslam
Hodjatoleslam or (Hojjat-ol-Eslam (complete title: hojatalislam wa-l-muslemin , of Arabic حجةالإسلام), is an honorary title meaning “proof of Islam” or “authority on Islam”. It is given to the clerks Chiites who are Mujtahid. At the origin, this title was applied only to the principal thinkers, but since the beginning of the 20th century, it is used for all the Mujtahid after the creation of the title of Ayatollah for the remarkable Islamic thinkers. Nowadays, and particularly in Iran, this title can be given to any clerk of minor row, even those which did not reach the row of Mujtahid.
