Hochelaga-Maisonneuve

Hochelaga-Maisonneuve is a district of Montreal, it was at one time the working Quartier Francophone of the Ville. It belongs to the Arrondissement of Mercier-Hochelaga-Maisonneuve.

Place of interest

History

Formerly, Maisonneuve was a municipality in oneself and was one of the last cities besides has to be attached to Montreal into 1918 before the great unification of Montreal a few years ago. The district had an especially residential and working vocation, but its development was later. The municipality of Hochelaga was more in the west, Tétraultville in the east towards point of the island of Montreal. One also found, downstream from the current Sainte-Marie, Iberville and Rosemont. This locality, after the current and before the exit towards the river, is advantageous for industry. To facilitate economic development more, Maisonneuve constitutes a municipal council and gives leave of tax to industries. Unfortunately, it will have to declare bankruptcy because of its ambition and to be repurchased by Montreal. Maisonneuve competed with Montreal by its industrial territories.

Policy

It is a provincial electoral constituency. Louise Harel, is the provincial Député E (Parti Québécois) and Réal Ménard (Québécois Bloc) is the federal deputy (district Hochelaga).
