Histrion is a novel of Science-fiction of Ayerdhal published in 1993. The author pays there homage to Frank Herbert and develops to with it a human political universe chaotiquement unified around a named political entity Daym, itself the fruit of Genesis, living organism of unknown nature. This novel will be followed one year later by Sexomorphoses.

The political framework

Within Daym thirteen entities having each one a voice are expressed:
  • Genesis itself, planet thinking for the ones, supercomputer for others;
  • Eliges, civils servant of Daym, alive on the Ehn-Eval planet, which is not other than planet where Génesis is;
  • Empire, by the voice of a Knight, and in the name of the Emperor;
  • the Confederation, democracy of importance similar to the Empire;
  • the Church, politically allied with the Empire;
  • Scientes, exceptionally gifted of technology resulting from a named single planet Endrèbe;
  • Nautes, populates wandering major space which is the only one to have the supraluminic technology of the voyage, and which lives on vessel-islands;
  • Taj Rowed, made up only of women, all telepathic and reproducing by Parthénogenèse;
  • Erudes, anarchistic company particularly gifted in the artistic, political and psychological disciplines.
  • Andres, diminutive of Androïdes, creatures of Scientes and whose humanity hardly knows what they became since their beginning of emancipation;
  • Steps (implied Empire), Lansall, unions of republics, monarchies, sometimes authoritative, sometimes democratic liberal;
  • Lansall, similar to the Steps, but rather associated with the Confederation;
  • the thirteenth voice is held by Histrion, foutor of shit incarnated whose role is to make impossible the long-term opposition to progress.

The character of Histrion

At the same time hero and heroin, Aimlin (or Aimline) is a sexomorphe. El (pronoun designating the hermaphrodites and sexomorphes) is the central figure of the novel, a deeply dual character (man and woman; irresponsible and politically committed; egoist and altruist; courageous and yellowbelly…). Its sexomorphie, capacity to completely change its genetic material and in particular with becoming man or woman, make of it a character in search of oneself in particular in Sexomorphoses , another novel of Ayerdhal taking again the universe and the characters of Histrion and which constitutes in fact its obvious result.

A committed novel

With the image of the remainder of its work, Histrion is an yell and a cry of love of Ayerdhal against and for the human one: xenophobia, attraction of the capacity, selfishness take some for their rank while it makes us read a deep praise of universalism, sometimes not without a certain naivety.
