France, a few years before the the United States and the Great Britain, also leant on the question. April 1st, 1937 was created with Rheims, on current the Air base 112, the 601e Groupe of infantry of the Air, first unit parachutist of the Air force. Constituted on the model of what existed then already in Soviet Union and Germany, this unit was even the only formation French parachutist with being stationed in metropolis before the Second world war, the 602e Groupement of infantry of the Air as for him being based in Algeria. The mission entrusted to this unit equipped with about fifteen planes Potez 65 and two Potez 540 was “to transport by plane and to unload by parachute, in enemy territory, of the detachments of infantry”.
