History of the Belgian railroads
Little time after the constitution of the Belgium and its separation of the Netherlands in 1830, a Débat opens on opportunity of creating lines of railroads public and of using there the Locomotive with vapor recently developed in England. Finally, it is decided to break with traditional the transport by water way, whose natural outlet is the Holland, for a novel mode of transport better in conformity with the new political aspirations.
In front of the disinterest of the Private sector, one decides that the State will build and manage the future network whose Malines will be the central point.
In 1835, one inaugurates the first railway lines in Belgium
In 1842, it was the Crampton engine which was invented by Thomas Russell Crampton. The first engines rolled between Liege and Namur to 100 km/h.
Finally, fine 1843, the network reaches 559 km.
