Historico-grammatical method

The historico-grammatical method is a biblical Herméneutique, i.e. a method of study and interpretation of the text of the Bible. The historico-grammatical process has recourse, as much as possible, with the historical context of the biblical texts, and with the initial message that the latter wanted to convoy with the populations of the time.

The historico-grammatical approach exploits all knowledge available compared to a specific text as regards Linguistique, of Grammaire, Littérature, Histoire, Archéologie, economy and Religion. This method has the aim of determining the original intention of the author if the comprehension of the passage poses problem. In this direction, the method is symmetrically opposed to the postmodern forms and liberal of literary Déconstruction, according to which the interpretation made by the reader is valid at the expense of the intention of the author. She also dissociates biblical literalism, which literally takes the text without seeking to take the retreat necessary to replace it in its context.

The historico-grammatical method is mainly used in the tradition Lutheran.
