Historical museum of State
The historical Musée of State of Russia (in Russian ГосударственныйИсторическиймузей) is a Musée on the Histoire of Russia which is located between the Red Place and the Place of the Horse-gear to Moscow. The exposed objects go from prehistoric relics of tribes which populated the territory of current Russia to the works of art acquired by members of the dynasty of the Romanov. The full number of object of the collections of the museum amounts in million.
The place occupied by the museum was before the principal medicinal store built on order of Pierre Large the in the Muscovite style baroque. Several parts of the building sheltered the royal collections of antiquities. Other parts were occupied by the Université of Moscow, founded by Mikhaïl Lomonossov in 1755.
The museum was creates in 1872 by Ivan Zabelin, Aleksey Ouvarov and several others Slavophiles interested in the promotion of the history of Russia and in its own national conscience. The council of the museum made up of Sergey Solovyov, Vasily Klyuchevsky, Ouvarov and other large historians governed the construction of the building. After competition, the adopted project was that of Vladimir Osipovich Shervoud (or Sherwood) (1833-97).
The building was built according to the drawing of style néo-Russian between 1875 and 1881 and was officially inaugurated by the Tsar Alexandre III. The interior was decorated according to the style of the new Russian romanticism by artists such as Viktor Vasnetsov, Henrik Semiradsky and Ivan Aivazovsky. During the Soviet period, the murals were declared bad taste and covered with plaster. The museum was restored carefully between 1986 and 1997 to find its initial aspect.
Among the remarkable objects, one finds a launch extracted the benches of the the Volga, gold craft industry of the Scythes, rollers in birch bark engraved in old dialect of Novgorod, manuscripts dating from the 6th century, Russian popular ceramics and the objects out of wooden. The library asserts manuscripts of the Psalter Chludov (~860), Svyatoslav' S Miscellanies (1073), Choeur Mstislav (1117), Choeur Youriev (1119) and Choeur Halych (1144). The collection of coins of the museum with 1,7 million parts is most important of Russia.
Part of the museum is lodged in the adjacent building of old the Mairie of Moscow; 2 others are located in the Couvent of Novodievitchi and the Cathédrale Saint-Basile of Moscow.
The door of Resurrection between the museum and the old town hall and marking the entry of the Red place, destroyed under Stalin, was rebuilt in the years 1990. An equestrian statue of the Maréchal Joukov is in front of the museum, on the place of the horse-gear.
