Historical Provinces of Sweden
For the Norwegian landskaper, to see Landskap (Norway).
The historical Provinces of Sweden do not have any more any administrative office today, but represent for the Swedish an important historical heritage and cultural to which they are identified readily. With the Moyen-âge the provinces were however important entities also at the administrative level; each new king was to be recognized in all the provinces (see the Eriksgata), which also kept, until the 14th century, their own legislation.
These historical provinces ( Landskap in Swedish) are:
Charles-couronne* = translated name.
The other French names are francized and are not official either. In fact, the only names of Dalécarlie, Scanie, Lapland, Upsal and Gothembourg are often used.
The two big cities, Stockholm and Gothenburg, are each one with horse between two historical provinces.
