Historical Moravie

The Moravie ( Czech Morava in and Slovak Moravska in ) is an area of central Europe, training today the oriental party of the Czech Republic. Its principal cities are Brno and Olomouc. In 1029, Moravie is attached to Bohemia, and takes the name of Duché of Méranie or Duché of Moravie .

History

During the Antiquity, Moravie was populated by Celtes, Boïens, then occupied by various people, Quades, Rugiens and Hérules. At the 6th century, Slaves settle there and are made call “Moravians”. Parties of the kingdom of Samo at the 7th century, the Slavic ones (Moravians and Slovak: at the time the distinction place does not have to be) are subject to the influence of the Avars and the Francs. In 822, franques annals announce the presence of Moravian envoys near the diet of Frankfurt.

Mojmír Ier occupies, in 833, the principality close to Nitra, this date is appointed as foundation of the Large-Moravie (what is Moravie today, Slovakia, Hungary of North, subcarpatic Ukraine of the West, later also the Bohemia (890-894 only) and the Poland of the South). The christianization of the area, after 863, is continued by the two missionaries, Cyrille and Méthode. The term of Large-Moravie is known for us thanks to the writings of Constantin VII Porphyrogénète, one is unaware of however if the Moravians themselves then call thus their country.

  • 846: the Largeone is with the hands of Louis Germanic the following the death of Mojmír
  • 862: Ratislav, wire of Mojmír Ier takes again the reins of the country
  • 870: Svatopluk, nephew of Rastislav, fact alliance with Carloman of Bavaria to get rid of his/her uncle, Carloman receives in exchange Moravie (Svatopluk reigns on the part is the Largeone). Later, Svatopluk, which is not except for a treason, is turned over against its ally of yesterday and takes again Moravie. It extends its kingdom towards the Bohemia, Poland of the South. Its reign marks the maximum extension of the kingdom.
  • 894: died of Svatopluk, the Slavic ones of Bohemia make alliance with Arnulf de Carinthie to get rid of the Moravian yoke and to take again their independence.
  • 901: vis-a-vis the Magyar danger, the Moravians make alliance with the Francs.

The July 4th 907, at Bratislava, the Magyars put in rout the Bavarian ones and the Carantanie NS. The presence of the Moravians to this battle is not even mentioned in the chronicles (certainly franques) of the time. The Largeone crumbles and the Magyars take the Slovakia, then central part of the kingdom.

The Slavic ones, for their part, remain probably independent, émiettés between several microphone-principalities, State-plugs (if one can speak about States) between the Hungarians and the Francs. The emergent Přemyslides of Bohemia gradually, during the 10th century, as suzerains on these Slavic grounds and take (definitively in 1029) the control of Moravie. Three duchies are made up for the wire juniors by the dukes of Bohemia with Brno, Olomouc and Znojmo. It becomes a Margraviat in 1182, and shares from now on the history of the Bohemia during the Saint Germanic Roman Empire, then at the time of the Empire of Austria, and finally, after the First World War, in the republic of Czechoslovakia.
