Hippolyte Wouters (November 6th 1934) is a Belgian lawyer . He was the first French-speaking world champion of Scrabble in 1972 and the first president of the Belgian federation. He is regarded as the inventor of Scrabble duplicate and one of the first organizers of the international tournaments of Scrabble. He was the first president of the International federation of Scrabble French-speaking.

The championship of the world in 1972

Wouters founds the principles of Scrabble duplicate in 1972 when it attended a part between two friends. It showed the letters with the two players separately so that they can have same pullings. It records the payment of the new handset. It goes to Cannes and shows its idea with the local club, helped by the Inhabitant of Algiers Hamed Aouidad. Thanks to this demonstration, it decides to organize a championship of Scrabble the 28 and December 29th 1972.

Arbitrated by the commander Maupin, the president of the club of Cannes, the tournament of unrolls and it is Wouters which gains it. This tournament of Cannes will be regarded later on as the first championship of the world of Scrabble duplicate.
