Hippodrome of Woodbine

the Hippodrome of Woodbine is with Rexdale in a vicinity of the town of Toronto to the Canada. It accommodates many horse-races, and has the effect of being the only North-American hippodrome to propose mixed meetings (trot-dish). It belongs to Woodbine Entertainment Group, in the past Ontario Jockey Club.

Inaugurated on June 12th 1956, it was renovated in 1993 and 2004, to offer from now on 3 tracks:

  • the external track, in grass, reserved for the flat races, which measure approximately 2.414 meters (1,5 mile), which makes it possible to make races of 1.811 meters (1,8 mile) on only one lathe. Such a length of track is rather rare on the continent of North America, since it is the only track of this kind with the track in dirt of Belmont Park.

  • Inside this track in grass, one finds the track in dirt, reserved for the dish. It is an oval of 1.600 meters (1 mile) of circumference, which makes it possible to run on 1.400 meters (7 furlongs) and 2.000 meters (1 mile 1/4).

  • Inside the track in dirt, one finds a limestone oval of 1.400 meters (7/8 of mile) of circumference, reserved with the trotting races.

Among the key periods of the season, one finds in particular the Canadian International Stakes and the Woodbine Mile Stakes.
