Hippodrome of Vincennes

The Hippodrome of Vincennes , also called " Hippodrome of the plate of Gravelle" , is inaugurated the March 29th 1863. Located at Paris in edge of the Wood of Vincennes, it is dedicated to the horse-races, in particular to trot, is harnessed or assembled.

History

Inaugurated by a steeplechase in front of a crowd of more than 100.000 spectators, the hippodrome of Vincennes proposes with its program trotting races since 1880, and the concession granted by the Town of Paris to the Société of encouragement for the improvement of French horse of half-bred , founded in 1864.

Very damaged by the combat of the war free-Prussian of 1870 - 1871, the hippodrome of Vincennes knows many restorations. It lost, for a long time already, the seal very 19th century which characterizes the other Parisian hippodromes.

The test queen of the program of the hippodrome is born in 1920: the Price of America. Trot being a great success, the obstacle races disappear from the program in 1934.

The June 20th 1952, the first races into night take place, on the initiative of Rene Ballière. A race bears from now on its name, the Prix Rene Ballière.

In addition to the horse-races, the hippodrome of Vincennes also accommodates since a score of years in gigantic concerts during the summer. Queen, U2, Bruce Springsteen, Michael Jackson, Genesis, Guns Pink as well as the festival Monsters off Rock'n'roll occurred there in front of 50 to 70.000 spectators.
