Hillsboro (Oregon)
Hillsboro is an American city, seat of the county of Washington in the Oregon, whose popuplation is estimated in 2006 at 84.445 inhabitants. Many companies of micro-electronics are established in the city and the area is called the Silicon Forest , by analogy with the Silicon Valley of California.
History
The city was rested by three pioneers (David Hill, Isaiah Kelsey, and Richard Williams) who came in the valley Tualatin in 1841. They were followed by six other pioneers in 1842. The community was then known under two names: East Tualatin Lime pits and Columbia . It was named Hillsborough in 1850 in the honor of David Hill because it had sold part of its grounds in the county. This same year, Hillsborough was indicated seat of the county. The orthography of the name was then simplified for Hillsboro . In 1867, the first connection by steamer ensures a transport until Hillsboro. In 1871 the railway line was built in the south of Hillsboro following a conflict cave the inhabitants and the railway company (the rail link was assured only as from 1908). The city was built-in 1876.
Geography
The city is located at the North-West of Oregon, along the river Tualatin, at an altitude of 60 meters, about thirty kilometers in the west of Portland.
The climate of Hillboro is climate of a oceanic type. The majority of precipitations takes place during the winter months. The summers are generally rather hot (26,8°C of average in August) and the soft winters (7,4°C of average in January).

Many advanced technology industries are established in Hillsboro (Intel, Sun Microsystems, Yahoo!, Genentech,…).
