Hilda Doolittle
Hilda Doolittle or H.D. (September 10th 1886, Bethlehem (Pennsylvania) - September 27th 1961, Zurich) is a novelist and poetess of the the United States.
Biography
She studied the old Greek with Bryn Mawr College, where she met the poets Marianne Moore and William Carlos Williams. In 1913, she marries Richard Aldington, a poet imagist whom she leaves in 1918 and which she divorces in 1938. She belonged to the poetic current of the Imagisme, and in 1912 Ezra Pound finds its signature, reduced to him with initial the " H.D." It makes appear its first book, Sea Garden , in 1916. In 1918, it meets a friend of D.H. Lawrence, Cecil Gray, and they have a girl.In 1918, H.D. meets the British woman of letters Bryher (Annie Winifred Ellerman), with which it lives until 1946. In the years 1920, she writes several novels, of which the cycle Madrigal , composed of the autobiographical feminist novels HERmione , Bid Me to Live , Paint It Today and Asphodel .
In 1933, it leaves for Vienna where it starts a Psychanalyse with Sigmund Freud. It publishes the memories of this experiment in ' Writing one the Wall, (1944), the newspaper of its analysis, republished in 1956 pennies the title Tribute to Freud. . Its account, very perspicacious, is an invaluable testimony of the cordial atmosphere that Freud could found with patients. It then made a Psychothérapie with Melitta Schmidberger, the girl of Melanie Klein.
During the war, she writes her memories of childhood, The Gift , which will be published only in 1982. She makes appear a Trilogy of major collections of poetry, under the titles The Walls C not Fall (1944), Tribute to the Angels (1945) and The Flowering off the Rod (1946).
After the war, it settles in Suisse where it has a nervous Dépression. Its new psychoanalyst, Erich Heydt, encourage it to off write End Torment , on his relation with Ezra Pound. Between 1952 and 1954, it composes the collection Helen in Egypt , a feminist déconstruction of epic poetry, answer to the Cantos of Ezra Pound.
She dies of an attack in 1961 with Zurich in Switzerland, her ashes are repatriated with the family vault of Bethlehem.
