Hikone-jō

Is the most famous building of the town of Hikone, located in the Préfecture of Shiga, with the Japan.

History

This Château of the era Edo was built of 1603 with 1622 under the order of II Naokatsu. The grounds of Naokatsu were charmed to him before the completion of the castle by the capacity shogunal of the Tokugawa. It could nevertheless finish the construction of the castle by dismantling the stones of the Sawayama castle.

When the era Meiji began in 1868, many medieval castles were destroyed. The emperor expressed the wish, after having seen it, to preserve intact that of Hikone. He is oldest today of the Japanese castles of origin.

Today

The castle of Hikone was declared national treasure of Japan in 1952 by the Japanese Ministry of Education, the Culture, the Sport, Sciences and Technology.
