Higo
Japanese province was old a . This province corresponds to what is today the Préfecture of Kumamoto.
The castle of the area was located in the town of Kumamoto (an other castle was held with Minamata). During the Period Muromachi, the province was held by the Clan Kikuchi. The clan however lost the capacity during the Period Sengoku and the province was occupied by the lords of the close provinces (province of Satsuma in particular). That lasted until Toyotomi Hideyoshi do not invade Kyūshū. It gave the control of the province initially to Sasa Narimasa then in Kato Kiyomasu.
For the Sengoku period, Higo was a center of the Catholic religion to the Japan.
The Clan Aso had also strongholds of great importance in the province during the beginning of the Sengoku period.
The Clan Hetsugi had strongholds important in the provinces at the beginning of the Sengoku period.
