Highway of the south pole
The Autoroute of the South pole is a road in construction in the Antarctic which should in the long term connect the coastal station of McMurdo to the station of Amundsen-Scott. The construction of this one began in 2003 and this one was to be completed with the beginning of the year 2006.
This highway will have a length of almost 1 600 km. The construction of this one is done by levelling the Neige and by stopping the Crevasse S. This one will not be paved, it will be made of snow and ice, and will be used only during the summer (a hundred days per annum).
Along this road, a cable in Fiberoptic will also connect the two stations. This one will make it possible to largely improve the communications with the station of Amundsen-Scott.
