Highway 85

Québécois interurban Highway, the Autoroute 85 is a section of the Route transcanadienne and it serves the area of the Low-St-Laurent. It divides the same road axis as the road 185, between the border néo-brunswickoise and Our-Lady-of-Bearing. Moreover, the 85 is dedicated to replace the 185 like principal road bond between these points. The road 185 is famous to be one of the most fatal roads of the Canada and to correct this situation, it is gradually transformed of a road with 2 ways with access not controlled to a highway with four ways.

At present, Highway 85 begins with Saint-Antonin (km 87) and finishes 13  kilometers more in north, on the Highway 20, with Our-Lady-of-Bearing (km 100). This section formed initially part of the highway 20 (before 1974) - which finished formerly in the center line of highway 2, renumbered 185 since) -, then of the road 185 (until 2005), before being numbered highway 85. The 85 will lengthen at the rate/rhythm of tranformation of the 185 in highway. To note that the 85 will be built partly on the influence of 185 current whereas at other places a new road is completely built.

Certain small section of the 185 were already transformed into highway, where they are being made transform. On the other hand, no major section is in construction. Those are still at the stage of design and environmental analysis.

In the long term, when the project of transformation of the road 185 is supplemented, highway 85 will have a length of approximately 100  kilometers and will connect the Route 2 of New Brunswick to the Autoroute 20 with the height of River-of-Wolf. At the same time, the Transcanadienne will become a continuous highway between Arnprior, Ontario (Autoroute 417) and New Glasgow, Nova Scotia (Route 104). Moreover, this will supplement a connection interprovinciale highway even longer of more than 2000  km, between Windsor, Ontario and Halifax, Nova Scotia.
