Québécois Expressway, the Autoroute 440 is divided into two distinct sections. The present one, the Autoroute Laval is located Laval, between the Autoroute 13 and the Autoroute 25 and crosses part of the territory of Laval (Île Jesus) on its west-east axis. It currently measures 13,2 kilometers and it is connected to all the North-South highways connecting Montreal to its northern bank.
According to the original plans, highway 440 was to be prolonged towards the west in the corridor of the avenue of Wood, to cross the Rivière of the Meadows to reach the Île Bizard, where its corridor is currently occupied by a regional park. On the island of Montreal, Highway 440 would pass to the west of the Boulevard Castle-Pierrefonds, before finishing on the Autoroute 40 at the level of the Sainte-Marie exchanger. It is the reason why the numbers of exit begin to 16.
Because of the finishing of the Autoroute 25 part of the current layout of the latter (km 12 to 16 current) will be in the future a section of the Laval Highway.
One should not confuse the Laval highway with the other Autoroute 440, located at Quebec.
