Highway 25
Québécois interurban Highway, highway 25, so known under the name of Autoroute Louis-Hippolyte-Lafontaine in Montreal serves the areas of Lanaudière, Laval and Montreal. It is located between the exchanger with the road 132 and the Autoroute 20, with Longueuil and finishes in Holy Spirit, in Lanaudière. It is the principal road bond between the east of Montreal and the Bank-South and this, via the Bridge-tunnel Louis-Hippolyte-Lafontaine. 25 fact part of the Road transcanadienne between the Metropolitan boulevard (40) and the 20.
Currently, it misses part of the layout designed in an original manner to cross the Rivière of the Meadows. After several years of waiting, this section should be carried out in the next years. A new paying bridge spanning the Rivière of the Meadows will be built, as well as a section which will connect the angle Henri-Bourassa/Autoroute 25 to a new exchanger with the highway 440, in Laval. This work of more than 400 million dollars will be carried out within the framework of a public-private partnership.
Thus, at present a temporary section of A-25 exists between the angle Autoroute 25/Boulevard Henri-Bourassa (Fine current) and the exchanger with the highway 440. Once the completed work, the Henri-Bourassa boulevard will not form any more part of highway 25 and the portion between the boulevard Magpie-IX and highway 440 will belong to the road 125.
One also speaks to continue the 25 towards north, beyond Holy Spirit, towards Holy-Julienne and Rawdon. The ultimate length of the 25 should be of approximately 100 km.
Originally, the 25 was to begin at current exit 4 (Souligny Avenue). The Bridge-tunnel Louis-Hippolyte-Lafontaine was to be a section of the 20 and this one was to fork, at exit 4, towards the downtown area and to join the 720 (which would have become the 20). This project was given up and the numbers of exits were adjusted only very recently.
