HES-SO Were worth (HES-SO Wallis, in the past HEVs) belonged to the High School of Western Switzerland.

History

In 1988, the canton of the Valais counted 5 universities on its territory: the University of frameworks for the economy and the administration has St-Maurice, the Ecole of engineers to Sion, the University of business computing of Sierre, the Swiss Ecole of tourism to Sierre and the University of frameworks for the economy and the administration with Viège.

In 1996, the Federal council put in building site the construction of the 7 high schools specialized, according to the legal tendencies adopted in the law of October 6th, 1995 (LHES) and his ordinances of application.

In 1998, the canton of Were worth adhered to the legal settlement intercantonal creating the HE&SO in order to allow its schools concerned with the field of application of the LHES to reach the federal recognition.

In 1999, the Great Council of the canton of Were worth created the High school specialized Valais (HEVs), entity of university formation of level within the meaning of the federal law on the HES.

From 2003, with the separated departure, (HEVs and HES-S2), the development of the regional HES evolved to a bringing together on the level of the administrative infrastructure (general secretary). The specific identities remain preserved by the existence of two intercantonaux legal instruments (legal settlement and convention) melting two distinct strategic committees and two management committees, with a common presidency. At the end of the adaptations required by the setting in legal conformity, the French-speaking Switzerland will have carried out the federal requirement of a single regional HES by 2006.

In 2007, it took the name of HES-SO Valais.

Organization

The organization of the High Valaisan school, matric type, is compatible at the same time with missions HES and the approach " produits" contracts of services (news public administration). A single head office caps all the activities deployed on the two sites of Sion and Sierre. This reinforced internal alliance supports synergy between the dies of studies and the mobilization of the resources in the realization of common objectives.

The High Valaisan school is controlled by a managing director and 4 assistant editors. These 4 members of the head office in parallel carry on activities of teaching and of research height of 50% has.

Missions

HEVs exempts a teaching centers on the practice, sanctioned by a diploma and preparing ad interim 'exercise of community activities which required I' application of knowledge and scientific methods.
In complement being studied sanctioned by the diploma, it puts forward measures of training.
In its spheres of activities, HEVs workload of applied research and development (Ra&D) and provides services has thirds.
HEVs collaborates with other institutions of formation and research in Switzerland and abroad.

Site of Sion

The High Valaisan school is localized on two sites, namely with Sion for the field of sciences of I' engineer and chemistry and with Sierre for the field of the economy and the services.

In order to meet the market needs, the High Valaisan school will propose an orientation in biotechnology. The reception of these new students and tools for teaching to be placed at their disposal, with which laboratories equipped, required important alteration work.

The extension of the building which shelters, has Sion, the die chemistry and the agroalimentary die & biotechnology was approved in June 2001 by the Great Valaisan Council which has grants a credit of 2,7 franc million. Work, currencies to 5,2 million, began in summer 2001.

Site of Sierre

Construction with Sierre of the building intends to shelter the two dies of studies (saving in company and business computing) of the field concerns and the two affiliated universities (Swiss school of tourism and university of business computing) started in September 2000. Work proceeds according to established planning. At the end of the month of December 2001, the building was sets up and the carcass work heavy castings finished. The building site should be completed in December 2002.

This building of 5 stages, of a cost envisaged of 40 million, is a splendid tool for teaching (http://bellevue.hevs.ch) being able to lodge nearly 1200 people. It represents: 38 months of work, 39 classrooms equipped with last technologies, 4 audiences, a aula of 360 places, 9000 m2 of surface usable.

The new structure makes it possible to create a true space of life and meeting for the professors and the students.
