High commissionership
A high commissionership (in English, High Commission ) is the name given to a Ambassade of the the United Kingdom within the countries of the the Commonwealth and reciprocally. One thus does not speak about ambassador of Australia to London but High-Commissioner.
This terminology was taken again by the the United States for their Trust Territories of the Pacific and by the France for some of its overseas territories (in which the High-Commissioner is familiarly called “haussaire”).
It is also the name of certain international institutions like the Office of the High Commission of the United Nations for the refugees or main roads as in several governments of the III° République, one of the IV° and one of V°: the High commissionership with active solidarity against poverty of the Government Francois Fillon.
