High Rebirth

This article relates to the High Renaissance of the Cinquecento, presented from the point of view of the Histoire of art; this artistic movement is in the continuity of the First Rebirth.

An apogee of the Italian Rebirth

The High Rebirth refers to the art of the papal Rome, Florence and the republic of Venice of 1500 with 1530. With the painting of the High Rebirth, Western art reaches its Apogée, and brings works of art of a universal range.

the Masters of this period are in particular Léonard de Vinci (1452 - 1519), Michel-Angel (1475 - 1564) and Raphaël (1483 - 1520).
Léonard de Vinci carries the technique of the Sfumato to virtuosity in its paintings.

Caracteristic:
Compared to the previous period known as First Rebirth , the works produced by the Masters show a maturity impressed of Noblesse. The experiments on the linear prospect time succeeded to engrave, in the purest marble, the assertion of found Humanism.

Political events

This period is marked by political events which will influence much arts: as example, the fall of the Médicis and the come to power of the Dominican monk Savonarole (death in 1498), known for its apocalyptic sermons and its antagonism for the Rome of the Borgia. The fanatic sermons of Savonarole will influence paintings of Botticelli, which will become much harder.

After the passage of Savonarole, Florence becomes again a republic, within the meaning of the city-State: the current distinction attaches it rather a Ploutocratie, with the influence of the famous Five hundred noble and large most important in the city. Médicis will spend thirty years to be taken again thanks to the eyes of the florentins.
