High Level Structures

The high level Architecture (High Level Structures HLA) is a specification of software architecture (a standard) which defines how to create a total simulation made up of distributed simulations interacting without being re-coded. In HLA, each participating simulation is called federate; it interacts with other federate within a federation HLA, which is in fact a group of federate. The whole of definitions relative to HLA gave place to the creation of standard 1.3 in 1996, which evolved to HLA 1516 in 2000.

The Specification of Interface HLA describes how to communicate in the federation through the implementation of HLA: “Run Time Infrastructure” (RTI).

The federate ones interact by using the proposed services by the RTI. They can in particular “Publish” to inform of an intention to send information to the federation and “To subscribe” to reflect certain information created and updates by other federate. The information exchanged in HLA is represented in the traditional form of the directed programming object. The two kinds of objects exchanged in HLA are the Class of Object and of Interaction, the authorities of the first type of class are persistent during simulation the others are just transmitted between two federate. Will remake normalizes it to you (std 1516.2-2000, “IEEE Standard for Modeling and Simulation (M&S) High Level Structures (HLA) - Federate Interface Specification” The Institute off Electrical and Electronic Engineers, ISBN 0738126217, March 2001) for more details on the services of the RTI and the information distributed in HLA.
