High Fidelity

High Fidelity is a film britanno-American of Stephen Frears left in 2000. It is about a romantic comedy.

It is an adaptation to the cinema of the novel of the English author Nick Hornby: High fidelity ( High Fidelity ).

Synopsis

Rob Gordon (John Cusack) holds a shop of discs with Chicago. It maintains there its passion for the pop music in company its two salesmen Dick (Todd Louiso) and Barry (Jack Black). Whereas his/her boyfriend, Laura (Iben Hjejle), leaves it for Ray (Tim Robbins), he wonders how he possible that each one of his adventures in love is concluded by a failure. He raises in particular the question of the role of the music and his recurrent theme which is the love disappointed in this irrefutable fact: ( Which is oldest: music or sadness? Do I listen to pop music because I am unhappy? Or am I unhappy because I listen to too much music? )

He then establishes a signal five of his failures in love more cuisants and decides to re-examine the five women concerned for an explanation. He realizes then that these separations, last the feeling of rejection, were not unhappy events. He also includes/understands that he badly acted towards Laura, acknowledging an inaccuracy to him whereas it was pregnant and the incentive to be fallen through. To that a refusal is added to begin who made it flee. Lastly, whereas it fell in love with a singer, Marie DeSalle (LISA Bonet), it appears to him that Laura is the woman of its life. She with the same revelation on her side and film ends in a happy end.

  • the mania of the signal five comes from Barry, large expert of music (like Dick) and which is proof of the greatest snobbery in this field, not hesitating to refuse to sell discs to customers who are not worth of it the sorrow in his eyes.
  • the film is faithful to the novel from which it is resulting. An important difference however is noted: whereas the action of the book is at London, the film has as a Chicago framework.
