Hettangien

The Hettangien is the stratigraphic first stage Jurassic lower (Lias). It extends from 199,6  ±  0,6 and 196,5  ±  1  million years and precedes the Sinémurien.

Its name comes from Hettange in the Moselle. A reserve located in a career at Hettange makes it possible to see the Stratotype of Hettangien.

Geology

During Hettangien, the area of Hettange was under a Mer hot and not very deep. At the bottom of this one an alternation settled:
  • of muds with a mixture of Clay S and Calcareous S,
  • of carbonated sands.
Within these Sédiment S will be trapped Fossile S of which many Gryphée S (Mollusque S bivalves close to our Huître S).
