Hertfordshire (delivery " Hartfordshire" or " Harfordshire" , the British often employ the summary " Herts" to indicate the county) is a county which is inside the the United Kingdom.

Located at the north of London, a great southern part of the county is with the northern periphery of the capital.

The county is surrounded of the counties of Essex in the East, Buckinghamshire in the west and Bedfordshire and Cambridgeshire in north.

The currency of the county east “Trust and fear not” “Have confidence and did not fear”.

History

Hertfordshire was in the beginning a fortress built by Hertford according to the command of Edouard Old the into 913. The name of Hertfordshire thus named appears for the first time in the Anglo-Saxon Chronique in 1011.

The Domesday Book ( Book of the Last Judgment ) also speaks about the county in “hundreds” (administrative division).

In England Hundreds was the division of a Shire for administrative, military and legal goals under the terms of the common law. In the beginning, hundreds adopted by the Saxon ones between 613 and 1017, represented sufficient ground to nourish approximately hundred households directed by a Hundred eolder . A hundred eolder , was responsible for the administration, the judge, and the military troops of provisioning. The office was not hereditary, but at the 10th century the office was selected among some big families. At the time there were 8 hundreds in Hertfordshire: Braughing, Dacorum (compound old Tring and Danais), Broadwater, Cashio, Edwinstree, Hertford, Hitchin and Odsey.

In the years of 1965 some administrative changes took place while attaching Barnet in large London, and to annex Potters Bar and the south of Mimms of the Middlesex in the county of Hertfordshire.

Today Herfordshire is divided into 10 administrative areas:

Geography

The highest point in the county is of 245 m (803 feet) above the sea level, to 400 m (0,25 thousand) of the village of Hastoe close to Tring.
