Herschel space telescope

The space telescope Herschel should be sent by ESA in 2008, jointly with Planck. Its scientific goal is to make astronomical observations in the fields of the remote Infrarouge and of submillimeter, has to leave 200 µm.

This Télescope is a satellite pointed IR, successor of ISO (1995 - 1998), Spitzer (2003 --??), and ASTRO-F (2006 --??)

This mission is named according to the famous astronomer W. Herschel, of German origin then installed in England.

The satellite is produced by Thalès Alenia Space with the Space center of Cannes Mandelieu.
