Herrsching amndt Ammersee

Herrsching amndt Ammersee is a commune of High-Bavaria on bank is Ammersee in south-west, on the Route of the King-Louis.

Located at a terminus of Munich S-bahn, the city is very attended for the water sports that one practices there and like starting point of the excursions to the monastery Benedictine of Andechs.

Herrsching is also a stop for the steamers known Ammersee.

Principal curiosities are the walk of the edge of the lake (with approximately 10 kilometers, longest in Germany), the church of Kurparkschlossl (built in 1888 by the artist Ludwig Scheuermann), of saint Martin, and the archaeological park (on the establishment of Bajuwari, in VIIe century, the Teutonique tribe which gave its name to Bavaria).

History

Men populated already banks of Ammersee at the period of Hallstatt, in current Widdersberg.

One found the vestiges of a vault of VIIe century during the extension of the cemetery.

In 776 appears the name of Herrshing in connection with a gift of the aristocratic family Huosier to the monastery of Schlehdorf. In 1098, the “Preitbrunnen” (Breitbrunn) is mentioned for the first time in a document. Until XIXe, Herrshing century remained a village of farmers and fishermen, aavant to become an excursion and vacation resort. In 1903, it is connected by rail to Munich. Today, of the one day excursions, but also of the longer stays represent an important source of incomes.

In 1889, the painter Ludwig Scheuermann builds a castle at the edge of the lake and organizes there in summer with his friends of the artistic manistestations. This Scheuermann-Schlösschen became, in 1934, a communal property. It was used in the post-war period like centers for refugees. After restoration it is today, under the name of Kurparkschlösschen cultural where are held of the concerts, the exposures and the receptions of marriages.

In 1978, Breitbrunn is incoporé with the commune. In October 1998, an archaeological park accueielle of the tombs of aristocrats of old Bavaria, a rebuilt church and copies of objects discovered in tombs.

The municipality of Herrshing has two partners cities: Gullied in Italy and Chatra in Western Bengal (India).
