Hero severus

The Severus ( Hero severus ) is a Poisson of the family of the Cichlidés.

Origin

This Poisson is found in water of the Rio Negro higher and the Orinoko higher and average (Venezuela), until the north of the Brésil.

Description

It is a Cichlidés of big size, measuring 25 cm for the adult males (a little less for the female). The Poisson S adults have the high and flat body, while basic dominant coloring is rather yellow. According to the mood of the Poisson, one can observe eight transverse bands on the sides, which will be more or less marked. The eye is of a all the more sharp red as the fish dominates. The lower part of the coprs is mouchetée red spots. The only difference of dress between male and female is the presence of mouchetures red-brown on the lower part of the head, in the males only.

Maintenance

In agreement with the size of Severus, one needs a Aquarium roomy. As for the other large Cichlidés, the decorations will be made of coarse sand, roots, stones punts, the whole installed so as to delimit Territoire S, the Poisson S not paired being not very tender between them. The plants are to be added under conditions, they must be solid, and the Aquarium must be sufficiently large, without what, it will be torn off. In spite of its size Severus is a Poisson calm and peaceful, which generally, will not pose problems with respect to the other boarders, if those Ci are of big size too. It is necessary to privilege a fresh water and Acide for this Poisson, nearest to its natural environment, but the Poisson S of breeding are today robust, and thus more tolerant.

Because of their big size, the fish will need a food in quantity, made up of thin fish, shrimps, moulds…

Reproduction

Severus is an oral incubator larvophile, as well as certain fish of the kind Bujurquina and Aequidens (at the Cichlidae). The parents stick the abrasion on a solid substrate and occupy themselves some. Starting from the blossoming, oral incubation starts.

It is necessary as much as possible to approach the physicochemical parameters of the natural environment for the reproduction. The young people will have a rather greenish basic coloring, which will evolve to the yellow thereafter.
