The family of the Hernandiacées is a family of plants Angiosperme S of old divergence.
By corporant Gyrocarpacées, the family includes/understands 54 Espèce S divided into 5 kind S:
- Gyrocarpus
- Hazomalania
- Hernandia
- Illigera
- Sparattanthelium
They are trees, shrubs or lianas, producers of essential oils, with persistent sheets of the tropical areas.
The kind Illigera is a climbing plant with made up sheets and sensitive petiole.
The phylogenetic classification APG II (2003) brought it closer to Gyrocarpacées and considers that it is now made of 2 subfamilies:
- Gyrocarpoidées with 10 species in 2 kinds mainly originating in the American continent.
- Hernandioidées with 44 species in 3 kinds originating mainly in Malaysia and Madagascar.
