Hermann Willem Daendels

Hermann Willem Daendels . Major general brigadier general then it illustrated himself at the time of the wars under the Revolution but also under the First Empire.

Born the October 21st 1762 with Hattem, province located in Gueldre, with the Netherlands, and deceased the May 2nd 1818 with Saint-Georges d' Elmina, on the coast of Guinea, today at the Ghana.

Before the Revolution

After studies of Right to the University of Harderwijk, it obtained its diploma there the April 10th 1783. In 1787, it took part in the insurrection against large the stathouder Guillaume V of Orange-Nassau. After the failure of this insurrection, Hermann Willem Daendels found refuge in France. He settled with Dunkirk and worked in a brickyard.

Under the Revolution

In 1792, it is named lieutenant-colonel with the 4th battalion of the foreign frank Legion and combat with the Armée with North. Promoted brigadier general by the Representing on mission Rene-Pierre Choudieu, it is pointed out by its courage and fine 1794 becomes major general. He receives the command of a Dutch division on the the Rhine in 1796. Hermann Willem Daendels intervenes in the interior policy of his country which finishes by was under the influence of the France with the creation of the Batavian République. Of 1798 with 1801 One entrusts to him the command of the 1st division of the army which with for task the defense of the Holland, It is useful under the orders of the general Guillaume Marie-Anne Brune. During and September October 1799, one finds it combatant the austro-Russians with Bergen, Alkmaar and Castricum.

Under the Consulate and the First Empire

It presented its resignation in 1802. In 1806, Louis Bonaparte, king de Hollande appoints it general lieutenant. Under this rank it fights the Prussia. Appointed general governor of the the Indies Dutchwomen, on January 1st 1808, it unloads with Java and remains there until in 1811. Returned to France, it takes part in the countryside of Russia (1812). It is charged by the Dutch government with taking again its counters occupied by the English under the Empire. It dies there on May 2nd, 1818.
