Hermann Hollerith

Hermann Hollerith , American engineer, (February 29th 1860 - November 17th 1929) was born with Buffalo (the United States) parents originating in Austria. He worked with the examination of the census of 1880 (lasted: 9 years) then with the American Office of the patents. After its inventions, it was named Doctor of the Université of Columbia.

Then, it gained the contest launched by the American Office of the Recensement and built a machine with Statistiques with Perforated cards. Thanks to it the Recensement of 1890 was treated in three years only. Hollerith founded in 1896 the Tabulating Machine Co. which will become later the International Business Machines more known Corporation under the name " IBM".

Hermann Hollerith is at the origin of the punched-card Industrie.
