Hermann Ebbinghaus is a German Psychologue (1850-1909) which applied the experimental methods to the other fields that those of the feeling, and in particular with those of the memory and the training. ( On the memory 1885 )
It is the first to have set up experimental paradigms for the study of the memory, i.e. typical situations used in the experimentation for the study of a problem.
Front, one studied the memory by the training of texts, but those are not interchangeable. Ebbinghaus thus will remove syntax and will replace these texts by lists of words. It then will remove the significant contents to arrive at simple syllables without significance (= paralogists). It thus founds 2300 syllables of the consonant type/vowel/consonant (CVC) as CONCEALED, POL., BEATS, TIC, etc
It is also interested in perception of the colors. It will use for its work the pyramid of the colors of L. De Vince to which it will round the angles. It publit in 1893 a “Theory of the vision” in the Zeitschrift für Psychology .
