Herichthys carpintis

The Carpinte ( Herichthys carpintis ) is a Poisson of the family of the cichlidés .

Origin

This Poisson is found in a natural state in the areas of the north of Mexico, in rivers at current fort

Description

It is a large Poisson, which will reach 25 cm. The whole of its body is strewn with a multitude of points brilliant blue-greens on a black bottom with greenish grey. The brilliant points is also present on the Nageoire S. It is a species Polymorphe, the males are much taller than the females, and they raise moreover one enormous Gibbosité frontal at the adulthood.

Attention with possible confusion with Herichthys cyanoguttatus, whose brilliant points are very small sizes. Moreover males do not have well marked frontal gibbosity.

Maintenance

The maintenance of this Cichlidé is easy, it requires a sufficiently roomy aquarium however. Indeed, the Carpinte is a large Poisson and it can be relatively aggressive, particularly in period of Frai. Apart from the Frai, if it has enough place to be made a Territoire, he will be then a pleasant boarder, with respect to fish of the same size as him. The decoration will be containing gravels and of stones, more possibly of the roots. It is necessary to take care that different the Poisson has hiding-places and that the fitting facilitates the delimitation of Territoire S. the plants will be generally abused, to see quite simply torn off, and are possible only in one big space, for the most solid species. The parameters of water are not essential, this species being robust. The food of the Poisson S must be made up of thin flesh of fish and shrimps, moulds, etc

Reproduction

The individuals reach sexual maturity as of the size of 10 cm. They are the laying ones on discovered substrate, the parents will defend and deal with the Ponte and of the Alevin S. While growing the youthful specimens will develop five or six black spots in longitudinal series on the posterior half of the body. Those can extend in a series from bars tranversales at the older specimens. After the laying, the parents adopt a suprenante ornament, the area of the head cleared up while the remainder of the body becomes very dark, almost black. This clear area, in the shape of right-angled triangle, is delimited at the lower base, the level of the jaw and extends until the medium from the body. The parents keep it as much as they deal with small.
