Herder nerve

Nerf Herder is a group Rock formed with Santa Barbara, California, the U.S.A. in 1994. The formation Pop-punk qualifies its style of Nerd-rock'n'roll (or nerd core ), because of the often youthful or humorous topics which she recommends in her songs, fréquemement truffées of references to the popular culture or series or films worships, such Star Trek or Star Wars (from where she drew her name). Nerf Herder is especially known to have composed the music topic of the American televised series " Buffy the Vampire Slayer ". The group briefly separated in 2003, that is to say the year following the publication of the last of its three albums, to carry out a return towards the end of 2005.

Biography

Nerf Herder was founded with Santa Barbara in 1994 by the singer and guitarist Parry Gripp, the beater Steve Sherlock and the bass player Charlie Dennis.

A first album entitled Nerf Herder was launched in 1996 on My Records, a Label pertaining to Joey Cape, singer of Lagwagon (which produced besides the first two albums of the group), then on Arista Records. Nerf Herder then obtained a certain visibility in the United States with its song " Van Halen ".

After the publication of this first disc, the group passes from three to five members, whereas Dennis leaves to be replaced by Pete Newbury, and that a new guitarist, Dave Ehrlich, joint with the formation. The passage of this last within Nerf Herder will be however of short duration, since it leaves before the exit, in 2000, of the second album How To Meet Girls , to be replaced by Justin Fisher.

American Cheese is the last album in date. It is appeared in 2002. For the round which followed the publication of this complete disc, the second on Honest Don' S Record, Ben Pringle (which forms today part of the Rentals) replaced Fisher. Nerf Herder announces its separation in 2003, but returns in 2005 in its original formation (Gripp, Sherlock and Dennis). The trio envisages a new album for 2008 (as announced on their blogist MySpace the October 10th 2007. It should have as a name Nerf Herder IV .

Among the influences of the group, one finds Weezer, certain pop-punk formations American to which them its are connected, like Jonathan Richman. Nerf Herder already made round with The Vandals, Weezer and Bloodhand Gang.

Origin of the name of the group

The group draws its name from a counterpart of the film Star Wars: episode V - The Empire counter-attacks ( The Empire Strikes Back ). In the English original version, the Princesse Leia insults Han Solo: “ Why you stuck-up, half-witted, scruffy-looking nerve herder! ”.

  • the group was the musical guest of the last episode of season 2003 of Buffy the Vampire Slayer .
  • "Mr.Blue Sky" can be heard in the credits which conclude the documentary British " The Great Total Warming Swindle" , appeared in 2007.
