Hercynien
The Hercynien is a geological Period .
Period of Orogenesis being spread out Dévonien -400 MY with the Permian -245 MY and which succeeds orogeneses Cadomienne and Calédonienne.
It finds its origin in the bringing together then the overlapping of three continental masses: the Protogondwana (of which the higher margin corresponds to the current Vendée), of the Armorica (microcontinent) as well as the meeting of two continents (Laurentia and Baltica: orgenèse Calédonienne). This contemporary continental collision of the disappearance of two oceans (Centralien and Rheïque), is at the origin of the uplift of several European solid masses, in particular those of Germany (of which the Harz, which gave its name to " hercynien"), of the the Ardennes, the the Vosges, the Massif Central and the the Ural.
