Geography
The hamlet of Herbilly is located on Right Bank of the Loire, precisely on the slope which marks the limit of the major bed of the Loire. It is thus protected from water of the river in the event of rising. Attached a time to the commune very close to Courbouzon, it belongs to the commune of Sea since 1847.
History
The site of Herbilly is inhabited since the most moved back times, undoubtedly thanks to the presence of many sources running out of the slope (of the the Loire) towards the brook the Valley Gravel (which is thrown in the Throne with Montcellereux) and to the quality of its pastures. Nécropole S mérovingienne and Gallo-Roman were discovered there at the end of the 20th century.May 8th 1944, the fall of an English bomber charged with bombs reaches by the DCA German destroyed part of the hamlet making several civilian victims. Only one of the members of the crew survived. The bell-tower of the Saint-Aignan church miraculeusement was miraculeusement preserved in spite of some damage. The rebuilding of the hamlet was truly finished only about the middle of the years 1950.
American, Mrs Margareth Hughes, became, at the end of the war, the bienfaitrice of the hamlet by making many gifts (movable, crockery, etc.) for the inhabitants who had very lost at the time of the disaster of May 8th, 1944. It became " the marraine" of Herbilly. A plate on which these words " are reproduced; With Mrs John Chambers Hugues, Godmother of Herbilly, the inhabitants reconnaissants" was affixed in the Saint-Aignan church. As a sign of recognition, the main street of the hamlet bears its name. Her husband, John Chambers Hughes, was ambassador of the United States of America near NATO (Organization of the Treaty of the North Atlantic) from June 12th, 1953 to April 20th, 1955.
In 1958, Soeur Solange (Solange Luneau) created in Herbilly a hearth to accommodate women (with children or not) in difficulty of which it was occupied until her death. Its action continues today in what became the Social rehabilitation and Lodging house Herbilly - Lataste Hearth. This center is integrated since January 1st, 2007 into the Community Emmaüs.
Whereas it was a long time dedicated to agriculture and the breeding (until the end of the 20th century) but also to the vine growing (until the beginning of the 20th century), the hamlet of Herbilly became rather residential as from the years 1980. The population primarily made up of is reprocessed and young people “rurbains” which works in Mer or in the close big cities (Blois, Orleans or Tours) and which appreciates calm hamlet particularly accessible by various means of transport (near RN 152 and exchanging A10 highway, SNCF railway station with Sea with many trains towards Tours and Paris, coach service ensuring a good service road). In addition, the hamlet is close to the new zone of activity of the Communauté of communes of Beauce ligérienne " Doors of Chambord".
