Herbert James Draper (1863 - 1920) was a British painter of the time victorienne.

Biography

It made its artistic studies with the Royal Academy of London and accomplished several voyages of formation to Paris and Rome between 1888 and 1892. In the Years 1890, it also carried out a work of illustration. In 1891, it married Ida; they had a girl.

In 1894 began its most productive period. It concentrated especially on the mythological topics of the ancient Greece. Its table “  Tears for Icare  ” (1898) gained the gold medal of the World Fair of Paris in 1900.

Although he was neither a member nor associated with the Royal Academy, he took share with the annual exposures starting from 1897. He was a known portraitist. Its popularity weakened at the end of its life and he is now almost forgotten.
