Herbert Pitman

Herbert John " Bert" Pitman (November 20th 1877 - December 2nd 1961) was the 3rd Officier RMS Titanic .

Biography

It was born in Castle Cary, Somerset, England of the alliance of Henry Pitman and Sarah Going Pitman. After having worked in the Merchant navy and for other companies, it joined the White Star Line in 1906. During the Shipwreck, it took its place in the boat n°5 to take the command of it. After the Shipwreck, he testified in front of the Commission S to investigation American E and Britannique. Then it embarked on the Olympic like Commissaire of edge. At the beginning of the Years 1920, it resigns of White Star. Then, during the Second world war, it is useful like Commissaire on board the S Macatoa. In March 1946, right before its departure in retirement, it was made Membre of the British Empire for service at sea long and méritoire exerted in dangerous water during the war. He died in 1961 of a cerebral Hémorragie, he was 84 years old.
