Herbert II of Vermandois
Herbert II , born towards 880, dead the February 23rd 943, was count de Vermandois and of Meaux of died of his/her father, occurred between 900 and 907 with its death into 943. He was wire of Herbert I {{er}}, count de Vermandois.
He inherits the goods of his father between 900 and 907 and increases his territorial power towards Vexin and Champagne. In 922, it took part in the revolt of large of the kingdom against Charles Simple the which it captured by treachery into 923 and kept it captive like means of pressure with respect to the king Raoul. It obtained from this last the seat archiépiscopal of Rheims for his son Hugues. In 926, it seized Amiens. It obtained the county of Laon into 928, and built a citadel there, but had to return the city into 931 and the citadel into 938. In 931, it approached the king de Germanie Henri the Bird-catcher, but was submitted to king de France into 935. It intervened then several times at Rheims to restore his son. With its death, Hugues Large the divided his goods between its various sons, in order to put an end to the power vermandoise.
Marriage and children
Before 907, Herbert II had married Adèle of France, girl of Robert, marquis de Neustrie and future king de France under the name of Robert I {{er}}, and of his first Adela wife. They had had:- Eudes (v.915 † ap.946), count d' Amiens;
- Adele († 960), married into 934 with Arnoul I {{er}} (890 † 964), count de Flandre;
- Hugues (920 † 962), count and bishop of Rheims;
- Liutgarde, married towards 937 with Guillaume I {{er}} Long-sword († 942), duke of Normandy, then towards 943 with Thibaud I {{er}} the Cheater († 975), count de Blois;
- Herbert III (v.927 † 982), count d' Omois;
- Robert I {{er}} (v. 932 † ap.966), count de Meaux and of Troyes;
- Albert I {{er}} (v. 934 † 987), count de Vermandois.
